Underclassmen earn spot on varsity teams

The Freshmen of Fall

Friday nights are filled with football games and volleyball matches and the weekend wakes up with cross country meets. Playing this season are two varsity freshmem athletes, volleyball player Satasha Kostelecky and football player Zane Hickey.

Kostelecky is #2 for the Lady Eagles volleyball team. Standing at 6’2”, Kostelecky is a huge asset at the net defensively and offensively for the team.

“I think that the most exciting part about being on the team is getting to play with these amazing girls,” Kostelecky said.

The Lady Eagles volleyball team has had two successful seasons prior, winning two state titles back to back. With high hopes, Kostelecky hopes that they can repeat.

“The thing that I look forward to the most is hopefully going as far in the playoffs as these girls did last year,” Kostelecky said. “The goals that I have for the team is that we start putting our actions into words.”

On the football field, Zane Hickey wears jersey #51. Playing at left tackle, Hickey is a huge contribution to the team’s offensive line.

“It’s crazy to be on [the team]. Like, practice is fast speed, hard, the coaches are on me 24/7, but it’s fun,” Hickey said.

The Eagles football team’s win loss record is 2:1 in the season so far, and Hickey has set goals for the games to come.

“Winning district and going to play in playoffs would be great,” Hickey said. “Hopefully winning state, that’d be great.”
