Off to the Races

DHS track season has begun

Track season for Decatur High School officially began with their first meet on Thursday, February 9th, and got off to a rocky start. Decatur competed at the Denton Ryan Relays meet, and came in 6th place overall. While this may cause worry, runners and coaches don’t think it should.

“It’s early in the year and training has just really started, we’ll get back in shape,” sophomore 800m and 1600m runner Jaxon Wall said. “I think once everyone puts everything together, everything will come together.”

“Heaven’s no, we swam with the sharks and we held our own,” Mid and long distance coach David Park said.

The question of making it past district always comes up when discussing track, and while it may seem early, there was no doubt in mind of the answer.

“It’s going to be very successful,” Park said.

With a whole season ahead of them, Decatur believes they can find success in future meets. Students hoping to watch Decatur’s track team compete can find a list of meets Decatur will be attending, including two home meets, below.
