Night at the Emmys

A spotlight on award winning shows

Night at the Emmys

The Emmys Awards Show took place on September 17. The Emmys, a special night for the television industry, celebrates actors and actresses for their accomplishments throughout the year.

At such an exclusive event, people expect the best behavior, especially from the former White House Press Secretary. Sean Spicer made a cameo at the awards, mocking his previous statement at the White House about the inauguration.

“This was the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration, period. Both in person and around the globe,” Spicer said.

Spicer rolled out onto the stage at the Emmys with a presidential podium making a small speech.

“This is the largest audience to ever witness the Emmys period. Both in person and around the globe,” Spicer said.

Other than Spicer’s fiasco that caught many by surprise, the award show continued on, never skipping a beat. “The Handmaid’s Tale” took the title of Outstanding Drama Series, and Elisabeth Moss won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role in “The Handmaid’s Tale”. The director of “The Handmaid’s Tale”, Reed Morano, won Best Director for Drama Series, the writer, Bruce Miller, won writing for a drama series, and supporting actress, Ann Dowd, won Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. The show won almost every category in a drama series, but Sterling K. Brown managed to win Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his role in another popular show, “This is Us”.

The Emmys also allows celebrities to show off their glamorous outfits. One celebrity, Millie Bobby Brown, wore a custom Calvin Klein white princess dress, with a slicked-back bun. Sofia Vergara also wore white in a form fitting white Mark Zunino gown. The dress that made many girls green with envy was Shaliene Woodley’s custom Ralph Lauren green velvet dress. Zoë Kravitz made a bold fashion choice with her rainbow feathered Dior Haute Couture gown.

The overall Emmys included a lot of politics, mainly calling out Donald Trump, but besides that, many speeches celebrated powerful women. Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon celebrated roles for women, because of the opportunities women are given to act in shows. Nicole also discussed domestic violence and that light needed to be shined on this serious problem. The 69th Emmys, was a night to remember.
