This preseason brought injuries to the Eagles. Starting off the beginning of eagle two a days, junior Chris Newberry fractured his kneecap.

“All I was thinking was I wasn’t going to be able to play football next season either,” Newberry said.

Newberry along with senior Rickey Roberts will not play out the rest of the 2014 season. Roberts was injured in the first scrimmage of the season against Kennedale rupturing his Achilles tendon.

“At first I thought that I just twisted my ankle really bad,” Roberts said.

Roberts hopes to compete in powerlifting after football season.

“I just want to compete to the best of my ability and do everything I can to make my senior year the best it can be,” he said.

The Battle of the Big Sandy game brought two major injuries. Seniors Dakota Williams and Aaron Shetter were both hurt in this game.

“I hyper extended my arm and tore the ligament in my elbow,” Shetter said. “I couldn’t believe that I had to go and sit out; I never thought I would be the one to get injured.”

Later into the game Williams got injured blocking a Bridgeport Bull tearing his MCL and a minor tear in his ACL.

“I thought my hip was hurt instead of my knee,” Williams said. “I just want to play and get to be with my friends again.”

Both Williams and Shetter return Oct. 24 in the district match against Wichita Falls Hirschi.
